 Title: Air Awakens (Book #1)

Genre: Young Adult, Romance,Fantasy
Release Date: August 27, 2015
Publisher: Silver Wing Press

MY RATING: 5 FLAMING STARS

A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond...

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

"This debut novel will captivate readers from the very first page and leave them itching for more!"

Sometimes us readers are lucky enough to find a good book to keep us company. Sometimes we aren't so lucky in finding a good book. Then there are those magical times where you find not a good book, but an amazing one. A book that captures you from the very beginning and doesn't let go till the very end. I'm really happy to say that this book was the "one" for me.

Diving into the book, we come across Vhalla, a library apprentice. Growing up, she was taught to fear magic, but she soon realizes that fearing it can no longer be an option when she finds out that she saves the Prince Aldrik, one of the most powerful sorcerers, with magic. Now she is left with two choices, to eradicate her magic and continue the life she has known, or embrace it and become the true sorcerer she is destined to be.

For me, I find it really hard to get into fantasy books because sometimes I just can't connect with the world or characters, but this one is now on my favorite fantasy lists because it was absolutely amazing! Not only was the world building vivid and unique, but also the writing style. I loved how the author was descriptive in her writing, but not to the point where it felt forced, or too poetic.

The plot was also another thing I enjoyed about the book. It was fast paced and everything fit perfectly into place. The dialogue between the characters was something I also liked. At times it had me smiling, laughing, or just shaking my head from the craziness. Gah! Do you guys know the feeling where you love a book so much you can't even come up with the right word to describe it? That's me right now!

With our main protagonist Vhalla, I found her to be such a kick ass character! Not only did I love that she was a reader as well, but she was such a unique, relatable character and rarely will you find that in YA books. She was smart, she was witty, she was caring, and she was strong. Kova wonderfully captured the emotions and thoughts of Vhalla and while reading, I felt as if they were all my own. Vhalla was open-minded and loved to further her knowledge of things and that was what I admired about her, and I think others will as well. It was fascinating to watch her go from shy and awkward to a strong, determined character and let's just say, I'm really excited to see how she develops into book two!

With our main hero Prince Aldrik, lord someone needs to turn the AC on because it just got mighty HOT in here! When we first meet him, yes, he is a bit of a self-centered, arrogant jerk. He's also a bit crazy in one particular scene that had me laughing out of shock, but don't worry about that just yet! *winks*

Although he wasn't the nicest person, I couldn't help but fall for this character. I loved his wittiness, and the way he had that bad boy side to him.  I also enjoyed getting to see how much he truly did care for Vhalla and I am super excited to see how he develops in the second book because I just know there's more to him than what the first book holds!

Another character that I enjoyed getting to know was Prince Baldair, the brother of Aldrik. It seriously keeps getting better and better, people! Baldair is exactly the opposite of Aldrik. He is caring, always with a smile on his face and clearly a ladies man. In this book, I didn't see a love triangle because I felt that Vhalla wasn't really interested in him, but I can definitely see something happening in the second book with Baldair feeling something towards Vhalla. Or at least that's what I'm hoping! What, a girl can't dream?!

Overall, Air Awakens was a stunning debut from Elise Kova and I look forward to seeing what book two holds! If you haven't already pre-ordered your copy, I highly recommend you do because this book will leave you in awe!
