When magic sleeps, everything changes.

In her dreams, Winnie Price always visits a fae realm. Dark prince Cathair O Cuana will do anything to save his dying clan, even hide his love for Winnie.

On midsummer’s eve her monthly visiting owl changes into Cathair. When magic sleeps, she sees his true form and may finally be in his reach. A palace traitor brings the kingdom to the edge of war. Will disaster drive them apart or pull them together?

"Now she knew he was no character. He was real. And his heart was aching...for her." - Winnie

Being a fan of anything to do with magic, I just had to pick this one up...and I’m glad I did! Tera Lynn Child's captivated me from the very start and I couldn't put this one down!

Diving into the story, we come across Winnie, a teenage girl who has been having vivid dreams for a few years. Never wanting to forget them, she writes it all into a story. But one day, she comes face to face with the Fae Prince from her dreams and soon figures out that everything she's even written in her story, are all real.

I'm a huge fan of Child's books, so it was easy for me to get so absorbed in the plot and the writing. Her writing flowed easily and fluently, which was quite enjoyable and made me want to continue turning the page. Occasionally, I like books that go at a fast pace, and this was that book for me. The author managed to write a good fast paced story, without leaving a detail out or making me think something was missing.

The romance for me was very cute to read about. I loved how Cathair, Winnie's love interest was so infatuated with her, and with every passing page he came to like her even more. I'm not sure what will happen to them in the next book, but I'm excited to see how their romance develops!

For the characters, seeing as this is a novella and it would be short, I didn't feel like I got to see much character development in this book. However, I did enjoy reading about Winnie. She was a lovable character and I wanted to get to know more about her.

With Cathair...I wanted to get to know him more as well! He was also a strong, smart, and lovable character and I'm excited to see more of him in the second book!

From magic, to fairies and to hidden worlds, Child's will surely get you hooked on this fantasy filled novella! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a short, quick fantasy read.

  1. I'm glad to hear you liked this book! I've only read the first two books of the Medusa Girls series (also by Tera Lynn Childs) and it was okay I guess. Maybe I'll like this book more! Great review!

    1. I haven't read that series yet. I've only read the Oh. My. Gods series and the Forgive My Fins series, but I don't quite remember much of them. I'm gonna be picking them up in my next book haul. :) I hope you end up liking this one! Thank you! :)

  2. This sounds like a quick and enjoyable read! And even though it was only a novella it seems like there was enough time to let the characters to develop and for the romance not to seem too rushed. Great review!
